Industrial development area in Ho Chi Minh City designated for the upcoming $2.1 billion AI factory and data center.
Ho Chi Minh City has announced a $2.1 billion investment to develop a specialized AI data center, marking a significant step toward Vietnam’s digital independence. The project, a collaboration between Accelerated Infrastructure Capital (AIC) and Kinh Bac City Development (KBC), will be located at Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park. This initiative positions the city as a primary contender in the Southeast Asian technological landscape.
Scaling National Computing Capacity
The facility is designed as an "AI factory" with 50 megawatts of capacity, utilizing approximately 28,000 graphics processing units (GPUs). Construction is slated to begin April 30, 2026, with the first phase of commercial operations targeted for late 2027. This infrastructure will support high-performance computing, big data processing, and cloud services for both domestic and international clients.
Strategic Focus on AI Sovereignty
A core objective of the project is establishing AI sovereignty. By building localized infrastructure, Vietnam aims to reduce reliance on foreign digital frameworks, providing government agencies and local startups with secure, independent access to advanced processing power. This move mirrors regional trends in digital infrastructure upgrades, such as Singapore’s efforts to expand its tech sector reach.
Regional Economic Impact
The project aims to foster a high-tech ecosystem, attracting R&D centers and semiconductor firms to the city. By establishing Vietnam’s first dedicated AI data center, Ho Chi Minh City enhances its regional competitiveness alongside established innovation hubs like the Seoul-Tokyo bridge. The venture represents a long-term commitment to integrating Vietnam into the global high-tech supply chain.
